A Story of Inspiration

Strella Social Media is proud to announce that we’re spearheading the social media efforts for Lindsay Coulter, a candidate for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Woman of the Year.

Lindsay’s passion for helping others is inspiring, particularly when it comes to this worthwhile cause. When she first approached us about supporting her campaign, we were inspired by her pure intentions to help children in need. Woman of the Year is a prestigious honor, and it may be easy to get caught up in the glory of a big campaign. But it doesn’t take long to figure out that Lindsay’s heart is in the right place. We are proud to support her.

I think you’ll find that she inspires you, too! Here is her story:

I have been familiar with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Annual Man & Woman of the Year campaign for several years, but I’ve never been involved with the organization itself. This fall, I received an unexpected email from a former colleague saying she had nominated me for Woman of the Year, and asked if I’d consider meeting with the LLS staff to discuss joining the campaign.

From the moment I met with the incredible people at LLS, I knew that I had to yes to participating. When I first started this process, it was for the benefit of a great cause, personal growth and to stretch myself beyond where I've ever stretched before. Also, I thrive off of a challenge!

I attended an LLS board meeting in the late falland heard the story of Ashley Fazekas, the 2012 Girl of the Year. Her story has given me a new level of excitement & drive that I've not experienced before. Ashley was my son's age (19 months) when she was diagnosed with A.L.L. (acute lymphoblastic leukemia). She fought bravely through chemotherapy treatments until age 4, and today she is a healthy, vibrant and incredible little girl who has changed my view on the world. My “aha” moment was that evening when I emotionally stood over my sleeping son, so grateful for the blessings I’ve been given through his life & health. How would I could I ever say no to doing my part to help fight cancer when I’ve been given so much?

Our campaign officially kicks off in one week and it has already changed me in ways I'll be eternally grateful for. I've met incredible people – most specifically the Fazekas family and the Beaver Family. Dustin Beaver is the 2012 LLS Boy of the Year and is just the coolest kid I’ve ever met. They are so special to me, and when I met them along with their parents, it was like I'd known them forever. They give me the motivation to raise as much as possible to help find a cure for blood cancers …so that no family will ever have to fight this battle again.

At the end of the day, my goal is to raise $50,000, but I know that no matter how much I raise, each dollar will make a difference, and my family's life will be forever enriched by this opportunity.

Between February 23rd & April 19th, it's going to be a fast paced, crazy, time that will undoubtedly test me – but if there is anything I can ask for, it would be for everyone to think about how cancer could one day affect their lives and those they love. Maybe you've already lost someone, maybe you haven't. I personally haven't lost anyone in my family or closest network of friends, but I don't know what tomorrow brings. I'm asking everyone to dig deep – every single dollar counts. How important would that $50 you donated be someday if there was a cure for cancer when you needed it? Let's fight for that.
