I’ll be the first to admit the Twitter wasn’t always my cup of tea. Like a lot of people, Twitter left me more confused and overwhelmed than engaged.
Most of the big players in social media use Twitter so heavily that I was determined to figure out its mojo. Last month I purchased Jeffrey Gitomer’s webinar, “I Tweet, Therefore I Am,” and found it to be an amazing resource. It ignited a Twitter beast in me and now that I’ve caught the bug, I thought I would share the germs with you!
Twitter chats
If you’ve never participated in a Twitter chat, I highly recommend doing so. It’s an intense way to spend an hour, but it’s so much fun and a great way to connect with people on a common topic. There are chats for everything – jewelry, business, scrapbooking, you name it! You can find the list of Twitter chats here. (I recommend loading Tweetdeck so you can follow the hashtag for the chat).
Twitterphoria (or any Twitter validation)
As Gitomer says, write something valuable and profound in that 140-character space. Take 10 minutes and come up with some great tweets about you or your business. Once you have these tweets ready to rock, post them at optimal times such as 4 PM EST. Once someone finds what you say to be valuable, they will re-tweet (aka RT) your message to their followers. Getting re-tweeted is a key step in understanding the Twitter addiction!
Cool tweeps
Say, what? I have to twitterject and tell you that I LOVE the twitterific people on Twitter. Ok, ok, I’ll stop. But really -Twitter has to power to connect you with anyone in the world, instantaneously. I’m meeting great people on Twitter and I’m connecting with them across social networks. It’s crazy how much this one medium can connect you to anyone and everyone. Lately, I’m finding I LOVE the amazing people from Australia – the Aussies totally ‘get it’ and they are definitely fun in the sun!
