Created in March of 2010, Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that allows users to organize and share images from the web. After creating boards, the user “pins” a picture which is embedded with a link to the original site (another board). Users have the ability to like, share, and even comment on different pins. The by-invitation-only networking site has created a monopoly with its powerfully visual content, quiet social elements, and simplistic features.
As a bride, I have found Pinterest to be my number one source for ideas. I have the ability to store ideas for my wedding in personally categorized boards such as Ceremony or Wedding Photography Ideas. The boards keep my wedding organized and creative! Other boards such as My Style allow me to collect ideas for outfits and hairstyles while the Meals and Snacks boards help me keep my favorite recipes ideas in one place. Some of my favorite Pinterest boards are Style Me Pretty and Apartment Therapy.
Businesses are using Pinterest to curate information related to professional and organizational topics through images. Top retailing pinners include HGTV, Nordstrom’s and ModCloth. These large retailers have products and services that tell their story through images they post to boards. The best retailers on Pinterest demonstrate a strategic balance between their own content and content found from other pinners.
Whether you want to hop on the Pinterest bandwagon or discover what the business-side holds, I encourage everyone to ‘have a look.’
Are you using Pinterest? What are you favorite boards?
My colleague, Marj (the graphic designer specialist on staff and avid scrapbooker) loves this thing, and frankly I haven't paid alot of attention. It's gotten so much fanfare, I'll have to give it some respect and check it out. Thanks!
You'll love it! Check out my boards . . . I think you'll get a kick out of some of them.
Margie don't you love it? I have gotten so much inspiration for my wedding, daily outfits, DIY house projects, recipes and so much more! It has been such a great resource! Kathy you'll love it, let me know if you need an invite!
