Blog Your Way To SEO Success

seo benefits of bloggingMany know that blogging is an effective way to attract an audience, increase awareness of your brand and even grow your business.

Creating synergy among these three online staples will help you to combine their powers and create greater leverage in the online world.

Picture your website as your home base…an online presence establishes your online brand, includes information about the company and its employees, offers users a way to contact the business and lists products and services with a way for the consumer to buy.

Having a strong website is critical for making a great impression on the online consumer. However, its content is not updated frequently, which can limit success in terms of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

This is where a blog can really help. Blogs, by their nature, are updated daily, weekly or at least bi-weekly. By incorporating a blog into your website, you will be updating your website more frequently and having a positive impact on SEO.

And then there’s social media. If you have a blog, you can easily promote it with social media posts that include a link to the blog. It’s a great way to drive traffic to your blog or website.

I would be remiss if I did not include some paid efforts, especially for those just starting out. If you’re utilizing a medium like Facebook, I recommend boosting your blog posts for maximum exposure. To learn more about boosting, check out my blog last week.

By having a solid website, blog, social media plan and doing SEO, you can not only increase SEO, but also maintain top of mind awareness and drive traffic to your website.

Even if you use popular blogging platforms that aren’t a part of your personal or company website, you can still use blogging to achieve all of these goals, even though the synergy may not be quite as strong.

So why would someone NOT have a blog that is a part of their website? Time and money. Depending on your situation, making changes to your website, if you have one, such as adding a blog may not come cheap. And updating content on your website may not be cheap either. If you’re still uncertain, this checklist will help.

My friend John Webster recently offered insight about blogging. A website developer, John told me that blogging at least once a week is the single-best thing you can do to increase SEO. He added that he often tells clients to not think of blogging in terms of once a week, but in terms of 52 posts a year.

Sage advice, John.
